Travel Insurance

Travel insurance can be purchased to cover many problems that can occur when on a vacation or business trip.

(1) What names does this insurance go by?

  •         Travel Insurance
  •         Trip Insurance
  •         Travel Accident Insurance
  •         Trip Cancellation Insurance
  •         Trip Interruption Insurance
  •         Travel Protection Insurance

(2) Who sells this insurance?

  •         Insurance companies
  •         Travel agents
  •         Travel website
  •         Tour operators
  •         Cruise Lines
  •         Credit Card Companies

(3) What's covered? Each plan is different and not all plans cover the same items.

  • Medical Insurance not covered by your plan
  • Cancelled Trips
  • Trip interruptions
  • Accidental Death, injury or dismemberment
  • Lost or delayed baggage
  • Emergency evacuations
  • Foreign Funerals
  • Personal possessions that are lost, damaged or stolen including money and travel documents
  • Personal Liability
  • Rental Car excess damages
  • Legal expenses
  • Pre-existing medical conditions (for an additional fee)
  • Travel to high risk countries
  • Coverage for risky/dangerous sports such as skiing and scuba diving
  • Emergency travel help

(4) What's not covered?

  • Pre-existing medical conditions
  • Acts of war or terrorism
  • Pregnancy related expenses
  • Illness or injury caused by alcohol or illegal drug use

(5) When do I purchase this coverage?
Typically when you book your travel you'll be asked if you want this coverage. Once your trip starts, it's too late!

(6) How much does this insurance cost?
Each plan is different and sometimes confusing. Typically, there's a flat rate for certain types of coverage, such as lost luggage, accidental death and trip cancellation.

(7) Our recommendation is to read the plans offered when you book a trip. If the weather in your area or your destination can affect travel then we highly recommend purchasing this insurance. While warm weather cancellations are less likely, they can occur. If you miss a connection on the airline, or to a cruise ship you'll wish you had this insurance.

(8) Warning. Read the policies carefully. There could be a deductible or some exclusion that could make this insurance less valuable. Bring a copy of the insurance document with you and keep it with you, not inside your suitcase.
